Here’s the press release we sent out today to most Ann Arbor news outlets. As always, thank you for all your support.

U-M GRADS, PROFESSIONAL ARCHIVISTS LAUNCH NEW BUSINESS TO PRESERVE OLD PHOTOS, SLIDES AND HOME MOVIES

Priceless Photo Preservation offers pick-up and drop-off service, metadata retention and – just in time for the holidays – unforgettable gift packages

Ann Arbor, Nov 18 — For more than half of all Americans, their most precious possessions are completely priceless and irreplaceable—family history dating back sometimes a century or more.

Now, a new Ann Arbor company has stepped forward to help residents of southeast and central Michigan and northwest Ohio to ensure the long-term survival of their photographs, slides and home movies.

“No longer will families have to pack their invaluable family history in a box or worry that their material will be handled incorrectly by mega-chain stores,” said Rob Hoffman, CEO and founder of Priceless Photo Preservation. “We offer the security of pick-up and drop-off service in southeast and central Michigan, and the knowledge that your photos and movies are being preserved by professionals.”

Besides Hoffman, who specialized in Archives and Records Management while obtaining a Master’s Degree from the University of Michigan School of Information, the company’s other partners include U-M grads Eric Hansen and Hanna Stelman. Collectively, the three have worked at University of Michigan’s Bentley Historical Library, the University of Michigan Preservation and Conservation Lab, Grand Valley State University, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, and the Smithsonian Institution.

Priceless Photo Preservation offers services that most scanning and digitization services cannot, including pick-up and drop-off service, the retention of metadata (attaching existing story captions and necessary description to photos) and the scanning of photos contained in photo albums. Narration from family members can also be incorporated into movies that Priceless Photo Preservation converts with its state-of-the-art equipment.

Beyond scanning photos, Priceless Photo Preservation gives clients the option to use the company’s talents more extensively. Its staff can organize analog photos according to archival standards, create online photo- and video-sharing family archives and produce unique family heirlooms from the digitized material, including commemorative books, DVD slide shows and fully loaded digital photo frames.

“Our company can put together the perfect holiday, birthday or anniversary gift for the grandparent or other loved one who otherwise has everything,” Hoffman said. “Everybody loves to receive presents with a personal touch. Nothing is more personal than sharing family photos, slides and movies and ensuring a family’s legacy for generations to come.”
